Havelock North High School – Technology Block

This project was unusual in that it involved placing technology facilities into a rectangular courtyard that was surrounded by buildings on all four sides. The circulation pattern resulted in a need to form a curving wall which is possibly the main feature of the project. High level windows brought daylight into the deep plan and this was distributed through the spaces using full and part height glazed partitons. The project was successful through considered planning, choice of materials, good detailing and attention to colour. AwardsNZIA colour award
Taradale High School – Technology Block

This project consisted of an extensive upgrade of four existing technology spaces to provide six new teaching spaces. The existing building has been heavily reconstructed and absorbs additional new spaces to meet the flexibility and inter-spatial activity demands of the modern technologies and to respond to learning methods. The main building has been treated externally to make a technological statement through external material finishes reflecting the activity occurring within. Excitement has been generated internally through colour usage, materials patterning, and slightly eccentric plan modelling. The success of the remodelling has been recognized by some of the other schools in the region basing their current Technology Block projects on the Taradale High School project.
