Tiaho School

We work closely with a modular building manufacturer and their consultant team to deliver prefabricated modular classroom solutions and specialist facilities for the Ministry of Education with their Hawkes Bay schools. Modular classrooms are used as permanent teaching spaces, offering high-quality learning, resource and office environments. Our role includes design integration, planning and statutory consent management and coordination with the consultants and contractors to ensure each solution meets the functional, regulatory and specific needs of the school. To date we have completed a series of school dual classroom blocks and three complete school re-builds.

Taradale High School – Administration Building Upgrade
This project included an upgrade to the front face of the school, some internal planning changes and part re-roofing of the existing administration building. The total frontage which includes the main administration area entrance and the main school hall entrance was modernised and given a much needed lift. The new canopy and re-forming of the structural columns in conjunction with a new colour scheme have been successful in achieving the Schools requirements.

Central Hawke’s Bay College – Technology Centre

Outdated technology facilities were extensively reconstructed to meet the diverse demands of the current technology curriculum in secondary schools. The building is at the front of the school and whilst primarily designed to meet appropriate spatial relationships and studies, there was a conscious effort to create a showpiece building for roadside impact and impression.
Arthur Miller School

Judd Dougan Team Architects were pleased when approached by the School to take part in a Learning Studio Design Pilot where the design was to be specific but to take current Learning Studio Design Guide parameters into account. The planning is flexible and caters for students working independently, in small groups, in whole classes or in larger groups. Each learning studio has direct access to adjacent controlled external spaces where these starter primary school children can assemble. Natural lighting in conjunction with shading/glare reduction has been carefully considered. The project is innovative and provides interesting external and internal spaces.
Napier Intermediate School Redevelopment

This development demolished and re-constructed most of the School. It was designed taking current theories on design of learning studios into account and created classrooms, that children’s school results tell us, have stimulated maximum learning opportunities. Large outdoor sheltered congregation spaces which are well utilised are provided for both standard and specialised classroom blocks. The design concept was developed around a requirement to maximise sight lines for the teachers from the playing fields. Circulation routes for children on foot, children on bicycles and school visitors arriving by car were well considered.
Hastings Intermediate School – Performing Arts Centre

Opening it’s doors in 1954, Hastings Intermediate was the first intermediate school in the area. A devastating fire in February 2006 destroyed the original 1950s school hall but this presented an opportunity for a modern replacement building to take it’s place. JDTA’s design for an inspiring multi-purpose Performing Arts Centre incorporates facilities for Music, Drama and Physical Education. As the new building is located at the front of the School, this has allowed for an imposing and striking frontage to be added. This provides a connection to the local community with the prospect of public usage whilst maintaining appropriate links to the School grounds.
